Down country bike test by MOUNTAINBIKE: all eyes on the Cirex

Light, fast, and fun!

SIMPLON was one of the first manufacturers to blaze the trail for short-travel ‘down country’ bikes, launching an MTB with a 120 mm fork and 110mm rear suspension travel for the first time in 2017. The latest generation of the Cirex boasts a new frame that can be ordered with a suspension travel of either 100 or 116 mm. No matter in which version: The testers of MOUNTAINBIKE magazine were very much impressed by the ‘full-squish’ Cirex and rated it "very good".

Geometry

The Cirex features a modern geometry: a moderately flat front with 67.4° steering angle, a steep seat angle of 75.5° and a long top tube as well as a long reach – for a slightly stretched-out sitting position on the bike. Perfectly suited for climbs and demanding terrain.

Trail performance of the Cirex

According to the experts, “the bike rolls calmly over rocks and roots, the fantastic Fox suspension responds very sensitively and never reaches its limits".

How the DC bike by SIMPLON fared according to the jury:

  • high-quality components and well-conceived features
  • perfectly functioning 120 mm suspension setup
  • low overall weight
  • highly customisable

Equipment details:

  • frame: carbon
  • suspension travel: fork 120 mm, frame 116 mm
  • weight: 11.3 kg
  • fork: Fox 34 SC Float Factory Remote
  • brakes: Shimano XTR (M9100) 180/160 mm
  • shifting system: Shimano XTR groupset
  • tyres: Schwalbe Nobby Nic, Super Ground, Super Ground Speedgrip 29 x 2.4"
  • Vario seatpost: Kind Shock Lev Integra (150 mm)

Verdict: "very good"

The Cirex by SIMPLON is not only a great companion for short, nippy trails but also a perfect ‘trail tourer’. The only drawback the jury could name: The handling lacks a bit of liveliness.
