SIMPLON Cirex tested by Bikeboard

|Bikes & Tests

Bikeboard’s testers put the SIMPLON Cirex to the test. Verdict: The lightweight full-suspension bike impressed them across the board!

Tested by Bikeboard: the SIMPLON Cirex XX1 Eagle AXS

A sporty race bike with "down-country" option

One thing is certain for the testers of Bikeboard: The Cirex XX1 Eagle AXS by SIMPLON is a classic race bike, but it can definitely do more than that! With an optional 120 mm travel and “down-country” option, the lightweight MTB makes hitting the trails an incredibly fun experience.

Special features of the MTB

According to Bikeboard, the 2021 version of the Cirex scores with its two-pronged approach: The reduced travel of 100 mm on the MTB is perfect for uncompromising racers. Those who want to hit the trails can select a longer shock in the configurator (Fox Float DPS), which increases the rear suspension travel to 116 mm.

Other striking features: the no-frills design and reimagined frame. SCS+ technology is used on the Cirex. This means that the main frame tubes have an almond-shaped cross-section, which keeps the frame vertically elastic and comfortable. The lateral edge of the tube increases impact resistance.

Sophisticated features: On the full-suspension bike, all cables such as the shift and brake cables run inside the frame. The pivoting cable guide on the main bearing gives the bike a clean look and prevents cable rub.

Geometry & fit

The update to the predecessor model Cirex 120 boasts a more efficient geometry: flatter steering angle, steeper seat angle, longer reach. This makes even challenging terrain easy to master.

Bikeboard's verdict on the fit: "The pressure between the buttocks and hands is very well-balanced, and you stay pain-free and comfortable even after hours on the saddle.”

SIMPLON Cirex put through the endurance test

The Cirex is all about sportiness, even in the 120 mm version: "While sitting down or while riding out of the saddle – the Cirex only knows one direction and that is forward." Almost any climb – long, short, steep or slippery – can be mastered with this race MTB. The testers were also impressed by the agility of the front: It makes challenging situations easy to manage.

Downhill, the mountain bike really shows off its strengths: "It’s perfectly balanced, and you always have a good feel for both wheels". Even when it gets slippery, the Cirex can quickly be controlled again.

Equipment details:

  • frame: carbon
  • fork: Fox Factory Series 34 SC FLOAT 29, FIT4, 2-Pos Remote Lockout
  • shock: Fox Float DPS Factory
  • brakes: Magura MT7
  • shifting system: Sram XX1 AXS
  • cassette: Sram XX1, 10-51 T
  • tyres: Schwalbe Nobby Nic, Super Ground, Addix SpeedGrip, Classic Sidewall, 29 x 2.35"

Verdict

"Incredibly efficient uphill, sporty on flat terrain and fully in its element on downhill sections even far off forest roads" – that’s the verdict of the Bikeboard testers.
The bike also scored some bonus points in terms of design, weight, propulsion, and riding position.
With the Cirex, SIMPLON caters to the wishes of sporty riders who love versatility and variety.
